*Diana Ross’ “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” comes to mind when it comes to women—maybe some men too—and Idris Elba. His latest film “The Mountain Between Us” stirs up vintage memories also. The movie is a reminder that classic films can still be made and entertain.
So sick of hearing about the backlash against old Hollywood because of its “Hollywood ending” style back in the day. No one in their right mind would spend their hard earned money to leave a movie theater feeling miserable.
Sure “The Mountain Between Us” has drama, suspense, thrills and chills, but it’s the ending that has the “Hollywood” stamp all over it.
When the brilliant brain surgeon Ben Bass (Idris Elba), still emotionally damaged by his wife leaving him, is stranded with journalist Alex Martin (Kate Winslet in the snow on mountainous terrain after a plane crash), he must turn all his energies into surviving the extreme cold and lack of food and water. To make matters worse, Alex is injured.
The film, directed by Hany Abu-Assad also stars Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney.
