*Black Twitter is coming to the defense of soul singer Jill Scott after French actress Alice Belaïdi compared her appearance to that of a dog.
Alice hit up the Quotidien Toutou Matou Show recently, where she brought along her French bulldog. During the segment, host Yann Barthés asked Belaïdi what her dog’s name is, to which she replied, “Jill.”
When Barthès asks Belaïdi why she named her dog Jill, she responded, “Because she looks like, according to me, it’s very subjective, to Jill Scott, the singer.”
The audience erupts with laughter as the image of Jill Scott’s “Beautifully Human” album cover is displayed on the screen, alongside the image of a dog.

After the laughter subsided, Barthès realizes their banter could be considered offensive.
“They don’t look alike at all,” he offered.
Belaïdi replied, “They have the same nose, don’t argue.”
“No, but Jill Scott is much prettier! She doesn’t look like a dog,” Barthès shot back.
Belaïdi admits that Scott sings better, noting that “She’s also my favorite singer.”

One Twitter user responded to the shade by writing: “Welcome to France & its every day racism. Worst part is #Alicebelaidi will ‘apologize’ saying this wasn’t racist bc she’s of arabic descent.”
Another user posted: “I wish #alicebelaïdi had a Twitter so I could tell her how trash she is.”
“They have the same nose.”
